William Shakespeare

What a great way to start the year, our facilitator really set us into something difficult and different this year which was to learn and read some snippets of Shakespeare’s play for the very first Module. It was difficult to read of course, but I’ve learned a lot from this module itself and since we started the year school late, this module has been included in the second round as well. During this Module, we were mainly focusing on Romeo and Juliet, but once we finished with Romeo and Juliet, we moved on to Twelfth Night but because of the timing we didn’t really get to read a lot and dive deep into the play. For the final assessment, we have to do a podcast that compares one Shakespeare play to another movie or book that we’ve known. Click here to listen to my podcast.

Coordinate Graph

If you were ask me to tell you about coordinate graph, the answer that I’ll give you back probably “I don’t know anything about that”. This round in math class we focused on two main different things which are algebra and coordinate graph. I used to hate algebra because it is so annoying and complicated to do, but whenever I give a try on algebra when I do the word problems, I started to realize little by little how easier it became using algebra to solve the word problems, but this time we dive little bit deeper into algebra which is a little bit more complicated, but I still take on the challenge and I did it. For coordinate graph, it was really confusing and difficult at first even though I used to learn about graph, but not this kind of four graph. It was very hard to catch up and really understand what my facilitator try to explain us, but when I asked her more questions, she started to explain more about it and I started to understand more about the coordinate graph. Throughout all of this learning process, I just know that I always take on different challenging and I never make myself upset on taking those challenging even once.

Self Learning

Self learning isn’t a really difficult and easy thing to do. This round our facilitator decided to give us to take on a challenge to be an independent learner. We can learn anything that related to code and multimedia (adobe programs). I’m really into editing so I decided to learn more about “Adobe After Effects” I’ve been using Adobe After Effects for about 5 months now, but I don’t really challenge myself to do something that kinda more advanced. This time I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try something that kinda challenging for me. I decided to focus on a project call 3d room” I saw a lot of good 3d room on social media and then I decided to try it out by myself. It was really challenging at first because in the process of making it I learned a lot of new tool in Adobe After Effects, but it worth my time because after spending 1 week focusing on doing this 3d room I did it and I got to explore a lot more stuff in Adobe After Effects. I only use youtube as my main resource and use some of my knowledge that I always have. This is the final product:

Percentage

“15% discount” I believe you have seen this word at least once since you were born until now and I also believe it gives you at least a bit of the glue what I’ve been working and studying on in math class. I can say that I know nothing about Percentage except the sign that represents a percentage “%”. It has been a really good lesson to take during my math class. We did a lot of exercises about percentage. I also meet a lot of struggles during the lesson, but I always find a way to solve it as fast as possible because I want to make sure I know exactly what I was doing. Khan plays a really important role in my life because when I have free time I always try to do at least 3-4 Khan Assignment that Sam (our math’s facilitator) assigned to us. At the end of this round, I finally know at least 95% of the percentage lesson.

Programming (Python)

“It hards to communicate, but at least we try” It is exactly how I always feel when I do coding. Python isn’t that hard, but not that easy for me either. I met a lot of difficulties during all of my assignments specifically for my turtle race assignment in Codeclub. There is a lot of new function in that assignment that I have to use, but I never have seen it before. I test my code so many time and there is always going to be at least one error in one of those tests, but I did solve all of them. Then, I came to the point where they need me to use the penup() and pendown() tool. At first, I completely have no idea what both of those function do. I read the instruction, again and again, to see if I’m going to have a better understanding of those two functions, but still, it didn’t help me at all. I decided to check my code and run it over and over again and finally I only understand about 25% of what those functions do, but I still what to make sure that I really understand it, so I went to my friends and ask them to explain to me about the penup() and pendown() functions do. Then I finally got it and I was so happy that I finally learn something new after I meet all of those struggles. If you want to see my turtle race project click on this link.

Reading Different Novel

For this round, we are really focusing on learning/reading about a different kind of novel. Our facilitator decided to divide us into four different teams and each has was assigned to read a different book and try to finish it in a month. The books were Wonder by R. J. Palacio, Looking for Alaska by John Green, Monster by Walter Dean Myers, and The Outsider by S. E. Hinton. My friend, Rayuth and I were assigned to read the Monster book. It is a really interesting book to read because it was so different from other books that I have read because this book is written in a screenplay and it is really easy and convenient to read. This story talks about a 16 years old boy, Steve Harmon (the main character in the story) who was accused that he involved in a crime in the drugstore and was sent to the courtroom for a trial. First, it is really difficult for me to understand what is the author trying to tell us, but then I decided to reread it and then I finally get what the author really means. I also learn a lot of new vocabularies from this book, too. Here is the cover of the book in case you want to see it.  For this round, we are really focusing on learning/reading about a different kind of novel. Multimedia (Coding)

In this round, we are trying to learn something new and it is also challenging. This round we finally get to do CODING, but we not yet start with the complex coding language, we decided to start with python.

Even though python is not one of the most complex coding languages, but I still meet a lot of problems and challenges. The main two sources that we use for this are codeboard.io and codecademy.com. First, we start off by taking a lesson in Codecademy and for the first few problems in Codecademy is really easy since it is just an introduction to python. Then, we started to learn more about python and trying to deep/dive more slowly and get to know more about python. Then, we started to do a lot of more complex exercises in codeboard.org that our facilitator, Cindy made for us and gave us to solve them, but by the end of the round I can see that I really learn a lot of things about python. This is a link to see my codeboard.org exercises in a google doc.

STEM/ Periodic Table and Chemical Bonding

For STEM this round is probably my favorite round so far because we were learning about one of the things that I really want to learn. We were learning more about the elements and the periodic table.

We learned a lot about the periodic table. We found out a lot of answer to all the question that we have for a long time in our mind. This is some of the question and answer I found about the periodic table while learning about it.
Who is the inventor of the periodic table?
Dmitri Mendeleev was the inventor of the periodic table.
When did the periodic table invent?
1869 is when the periodic table invented.
We also found more facts, but this just the two most questions that we really want to know the answers. Plus, we also learned about how they arranged the elements on the periodic table. In this round, we also learned about the chemical bonding. We learned two of the bond this round which are covalent and ionic bond. Both of this bond is really hard to explain in words, but we got a lot of knowledge from these lessons. We found out a lot of new facts. We learned most of those facts from our facilitator and we also learned from a free online website which is called CK12. If you want to know more about the periodic table and chemical bonding click on this link.
